Sara is in the kitchen with Mom. There is a big bowl on the table. There is flour, sugar, and eggs.

Sara looks at the bowl. She says, "What is this?"

"It is cookie dough!" Mom says. "We are making cookies today."

Sara touches the dough. It is soft. It is a little sticky. "Can I help?" Sara asks.

"Yes!" Mom says. "First, we mix the dough."

Sara mixes the dough with a big spoon. She mixes slowly. Round and round. The dough gets smooth.

Mom gives Sara small pieces of dough. "Now we make little balls," Mom says. Sara rolls the dough in her hands. One ball. Two balls. Three balls.

She puts them on a tray. "One, two, three," Sara counts. She makes two more. "Four, five!"

Sara looks at a small bag on the table. It has small colorful pieces inside. She says, "What is this?"

"It is chocolate chips!" Mom says. "We can put them on top."

Sara puts chocolate chips on each cookie. Red, no — the chips are brown. She puts three chips on each ball of dough.

Mom puts the tray in the oven. "Now we wait," Mom says.

Sara sits at the table. She waits. She smells something. It smells sweet and warm. She says, "What is this?"

"That is the cookies baking!" Mom says. "They smell delicious, don't they?"

Ding! The oven timer rings. Mom takes out the tray carefully. The cookies are golden brown.

"They look wonderful!" Sara says. She wants to eat one right away.

"Wait, they are hot," Mom says. "Let them cool first."

Sara waits patiently. After a few minutes, she takes a cookie. She takes a bite.

"Yummy!" Sara says. "These are the best cookies!"

Dad comes into the kitchen. "What smells so good?" he asks.

"I made cookies!" Sara says proudly. She gives Dad a cookie too.

"Delicious!" Dad says. "Great job, Sara!"

See you next time, Sara!
